Founded in 1969, the Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., (AMD) is headquartered at Sunnyvale, California of the United States. With a global presence, it is a world-leading provider of processors and computing solutions, dedicated to offering outstanding solutions to consumers and technological users like enterprises, government organizations and individuals all over the world.

In October 2006, AMD successfully acquired ATI and the deal soon made the company a world leader in the chip manufacturing industry.

 

China has long been the focus of AMD's global strategy. Since entering China in 1993, AMD has been working hard to enlarge its investment in this country. It has successfully extended business scope into a full range of fields such as R%26D, manufacture, channel management and marketing.

In September 2004, AMD set up its Greater China headquarter in Beijing. Ms Karen Guo, corporate vice president, was appointed the president of AMD China. Ms Guo is in charge of AMD's all business development in the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

In the years that follows, a series of organizations were established, including the CPU assembly and testing plant in Suzhou (2005), the Shanghai R%26D Center (2006), the representative offices in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and the branch company in Chengdu (March 2008). These organizations have combined to be a boon to AMD's strategic planning in China, and the corporate business development has seen a great leap forward. Thanks to the establishment of these organizations, AMD is able to continue cooperation with world-leading computer manufacturers like Dell, HP, IBM, Sun and Toshiba. It also managed to develop new business ties with Lenovo, Founder, Tsinghua Tongfang, TCL, HEDY, Dawning and other domestic OEMs.
